Our School History & Heritage
From humble beginnings in village homes on 1 Poush 2017 B.S. to a leading secondary institution in the mountains of Gorkha.
Founded on Community Resolve & Dedication
Himalaya Secondary School was established on 1 Poush 2017 B.S. with a noble purpose: bringing the light of education to the mountain community of Barpak. In the earliest days, without official school grounds, classes were gathered inside community residences.
Local elders, visionary villagers, and retired Gurkha servicemen played a pivotal role in laying the institutional foundations. Through collective community volunteerism, timber, and masonry, the school gradually erected its own classrooms.
Overcoming remote geography, seasonal isolation, and historical challenges, the resilience of Barpak families keeps the school growing forward.

Chronicle of Progress
Key milestones that shaped our school through the decades.
Formal Establishment
Founded through the initiative of Barpak village elders, community leaders, and ex-servicemen. Before dedicated school facilities existed, classes were hosted in community residences.
First Permanent Building & Primary Level
With voluntary community labor and indigenous stonecraft, the school constructed its first permanent classrooms, establishing structured primary education.
Expansion to Secondary School
To allow youth to complete their school education within Barpak, the school expanded to the secondary tier, preparing students for national board examinations.
Resilient Post-Earthquake Reconstruction
Despite being near the epicenter of the 2015 Gorkha earthquake, the resilience of the Barpak community, teachers, and global supporters enabled the rebuilding of modern, earthquake-resistant classrooms.
Secondary (+2) Launch
Inauguration of Grades 11 and 12 with dedicated Education and Management streams, providing accessible secondary (+2) education in the northern hills of Gorkha.
Digital Learning & Modern Achievements
Equipped with digital smart boards, campus CCTV, extracurricular clubs, Running Shield championships, and over 346 thriving students from ECD through Grade 12.

Continuing a Legacy of Excellence
Today’s students continue this heritage with distinction. From clinching 1st place in the 6th Barpak Sulikot Running Shield with 20 medals to securing 2nd prize in the secondary science exhibition.
Our history inspires us to serve every child with dedication, nurturing modern capabilities grounded in traditional values.
